With the accelerated pace of building on the South Coast, NPC Aggregate, which is based at Margate Quarry, continues to roll out blended products for the construction industry. Each of the quarry product blends is ready to use, requiring only the addition of cement and water. The growing product range includes three different blend formulations, each targeted at a different sector of the industry.

NPC Aggregate Managing Director Mr Avi Bhoora says, “We have added Block Blend for the block-making industry and Paver Blend for the paving brick making trade to our blend line-up, which also includes Ready Blend. For some time Ready Blend, which like the other blends requires only cement and water to use, has been a popular Margate Quarry product, encouraging us to extend our range.”

The blends were formulated as value-adding products by Bruce Plumbly who, in addition to being the general manager of NPC Concrete, oversees the Margate Quarry laboratory. “Each blend formula is not only the product of Bruce’s extensive experience in the concrete and quarrying industry, but is based on careful adherence to SABS specifications and standards. We have also used external laboratory testing to confirm product quality,” Mr Bhoora says.

The NPC product strategy is not only to simplify concrete block and paving brick manufacture, but to enable SMME block and brick manufacturers to enjoy the benefits of corporate scientific expertise at a moderate price. As a unit of the province’s market-leading cement manufacturer, NPC Aggregate also draws on the expertise of the company’s scientific staff which includes support from multinational parent company Cimpor, of Portugal.
