Training plays an important role at NPC for several reasons. Trained operators are required for the crushers, yellow machines and trucks which maintain the workflow at our quarries. Often this equipment can be dangerous to operate without adequate training or the wearing of appropriate protective gear. Employment equity initiatives within our operations are also supported by the skills transfer process.

After extensive training and testing by our management at the Margate Quarry, trainee Nomkhosi Xaba performed  so exceptionally in her examinations and courses that she was appointed as the manager of the Margate Quarry. This made Ms. Xaba the first black female quarry manager in  South Africa.

NPC Technical trainer Vassie Govender (right) administers an in-house certification programme. Typically our operators are cross-trained across a range of equipment.

Depending on an operator’s skills level, hands-on instruction may be a key training element.

Certification to new equipment boosts operator confidence and increases employment opportunities even as it adds to overall productivity.

Certified practical first aid training is also provided to boost workplace safety.
